Job Description

Department: Facility Maintenance

Shift    1st Shift – 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM M-F
Shift Premium Amount: N/A

Pay Rate: Up to $31.50

ROLE PURPOSE:

Perform a wide variety of skilled maintenance duties to ensure the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of all facility equipment, systems, and infrastructure. This includes plumbing, mechanical, electrical, HVAC, and general facility support while maintaining high standards of safety and compliance.


PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Plumbing

• Install and repair steel pipe, PVC, copper, sewer (ABS), and natural gas line (black pipe).

• Install and repair toilets, urinals, sinks, drains, vents, hot water heaters, and condensate lines.

• Specify correctly rated and appropriate plumbing fittings and fixtures with minimal support/supervision.

Mechanical

• Install and repair ancillary equipment to support the facility.

• Fabricate and repair using sheet metal, bus bars, and carpentry; hang and finish drywall.

• Use construction trades equipment such as powered saws, drills, sanders, and pneumatic tools.

Electrical

• Perform work in the area of Industrial Electricity (formal coursework preferred).

• Install and repair panels, bus lines, disconnects, circuit breakers, EMT, and rigid conduit (as well as PVC).

• Correctly wire three-phase motors and motor starting circuits, as well as single and three-phase transformers for power or lighting applications.

• Determine correct conductor size, fuse/branch circuit protection, and other requirements per the Electrical Code.

• Work with Phone and Data lines, 24VDC, 120VAC, 230VAC, and 460V 60/50HZ single and three phase systems.

• Demonstrate strong electrical print and schematic reading abilities.

• Proficient with Volt/Multi Meter and Amp/Clamp Meter.

Lighting

• Install and maintain interior, exterior, parking lot, emergency lights, pest control lighting fixtures, ballasts, and associated hardware.

HVAC/Chillers

• Troubleshoot electrical and mechanical problems.

• Apply working knowledge of natural gas furnace theory, AC/refrigeration theory, thermostats, coolant pumps, motors, belts, and associated HVAC hardware.

Air Compressors/Dryers

• Troubleshoot, repair, and perform preventative maintenance on plant air compressors and air dryers.

Roofing

• Investigate and address roof leaks.

• Implement emergency measures to prevent water damage and protect personnel.

• Coordinate contractor repairs and verify satisfactory completion.

Mobile Equipment

• Operate, troubleshoot, and perform minor repairs & coordinate PMs on Forklifts, Scissor Lifts, and Boom Lifts.

Rigging

• Assist in installation of new equipment or relocation of existing equipment.

General Responsibilities

• Disconnect and reinstall all electrical, pneumatic, and plumbing connections.

• Physically move, load/unload, place, level, and anchor equipment as necessary.

• Recognize and correct safety or regulatory violations; consistently follow plant safety policies (especially lockout/tag out) and use required PPE.

• Work with Fire Department, Sprinkler Contractors, and Security Contractors to test, install, repair, and maintain systems.

• Maintain dock seals, man doors, repair wall/floor cracks, mitigate air and pest infiltration.

• Support AIB/Food Defense activities through regular inspections and documentation.

• Perform housekeeping of maintenance areas to plant standards.

• Enter and complete maintenance work orders as directed.

• Perform other similar or related duties as assigned.

• Be available for off-hours emergency call-in and occasional out-of-town travel (typically ≤5% per year).

Qualifications

• High school graduate or equivalent. PC literate. Qualified to work with Industrial Electricity (formal coursework preferred).

• Technical background and experience in all aspects of facility maintenance.

• General office computer skills including email and word processing.

• Ability to operate a forklift and material handling equipment.

• Self-motivated with strong initiative and ingenuity.

• Effective communicator who can work independently and with minimal supervision.

• Ability to solicit work from suppliers and contractors when needed.
