Job Description
Location: Onsite – Ayer, MA
Shift: Morning (7:00 AM – 4:30 PM)
Pay Range: $27–$34/hour
We are seeking a Team Quality Leader (Quality & Safety Lead) to drive quality assurance, safety compliance, and continuous improvement initiatives within our manufacturing operations. This role is ideal for a hands-on leader with strong data analysis, root cause analysis (RCA), and process improvement expertise, who can collaborate effectively with both operators and management.
You will play a key role in reducing quality defects, improving process discipline, ensuring OSHA and environmental compliance, and fostering a strong quality and safety culture across the plant.
Quality Management & Continuous Improvement
- Lead quality assurance (QA) and quality control (QC) initiatives to reduce defects, waste, and customer complaints
- Perform First Article Inspections (FAI/FIA), in-process inspections, and product testing
- Use tools such as calipers, measurement systems, and SPC (Statistical Process Control) to validate product quality
- Monitor CpK (process capability) and implement improvements
- Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) and drive corrective and preventive actions (CAPA)
- Apply Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma (DMAIC) methodologies for process improvement
- Track and report quality KPIs, PPM, yield, and scrap rates
Safety & Environmental Compliance
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, environmental regulations, and safety standards
- Identify and mitigate workplace safety risks and environmental hazards
- Conduct routine safety audits, including monitoring of coolants and shop floor conditions
- Promote safe work practices and lead safety initiatives across departments
- Support sustainability initiatives, including biodegradable and environmentally responsible processes
Auditing, Compliance & Documentation
- Perform process audits to ensure adherence to SOPs, specifications, and E-Methods
- Maintain and control quality documentation and records
- Ensure compliance with SQF, Key 8, and internal quality systems
- Manage non-conforming materials (NCM) and ensure proper containment and disposition
Leadership & Training
- Act as a change agent to build a strong quality and safety culture
- Lead and collaborate with cross-functional teams (production, engineering, quality)
- Develop and deliver quality and safety training programs
- Communicate effectively with team members at all levels
- Provide guidance, coaching, and support to operators and staff
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Experience in manufacturing, quality assurance, or quality control
- Strong knowledge of statistical analysis and quality tools (SPC, CpK, RCA)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office Suite
- Demonstrated ability in problem-solving, critical thinking, and data analysis
- Strong communication and presentation skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities
- Knowledge of safety standards and compliance (OSHA)
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Previous leadership or supervisory experience
Preferred Qualifications
- Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification
- Certifications such as Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) or Certified Quality Auditor (CQA)
- Experience with CMM (Coordinate Measuring Machine) operation
- Background in environmental health and safety (EHS)
- Associate degree, technical certification, or trade school training
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 50 lbs
- Good hand-eye coordination for inspection and measurement tasks
