Plant Helper | Production Helper | Manufacturing Associate | Mill Helper | Utility Worker | Entry-Level Production Operator (Paper Manufacturing)

Employment Type: Full-Time | Rotating Shifts | Industrial Plant Operations
Compensation & Shift Details
- Hourly Pay Rate: $23.75/hour
- Shift Premiums:
- 2nd Shift: +$0.75/hr
- 3rd Shift: +$1.00/hr
- Schedule: Rotating Shifts (1st, 2nd & 3rd shift coverage required)
Under the direction of the Supervisor, the Plant Helper / Production Helper supports daily operations in a paper manufacturing mill environment. This role ensures cleanliness, safety compliance, and production readiness while assisting operators across multiple production areas.
This position is ideal for candidates seeking growth into roles such as:
- Pulper Operator
- Production Operator
- Machine Operator (Paper Mill)
- 4th Hand / Dry End Crew Member
- Forklift Operator (Industrial Manufacturing)
The role includes hands-on training for advancement within the line of progression in pulp and paper production operations.
Key Responsibilities (Manufacturing & Industrial Support)
Safety & Compliance
- Follow all OSHA safety standards, plant safety policies, and operational protocols
- Support a clean and hazard-free work environment using 5S housekeeping principles
Cleaning & Plant Maintenance Support
- Clean production areas including stairways, dryers, machine room, boiler room, beater room, basement floors, and surrounding mill areas
- Maintain cleanliness of eyewash stations, starch tanks, filters, locker rooms, and bathrooms
- Remove debris and maintain housekeeping standards across all mill zones
- Wash windows, stairs, and general facility areas
- Replace light bulbs and assist with minor facility upkeep tasks
Production Support & Equipment Handling
- Cut butt rolls and empty drums
- Offload water jug racks and organize empty containers
- Empty wire dumpsters and trash receptacles
- Assist with cleaning and blowing out forklifts (industrial equipment cleaning)
- Hang doctor blades and support production line preparation
- Operate or train on portable roll pushers and related mill equipment
Material Handling & Assistance
- Assist with pulp processing and support Pulper Operator tasks
- Support 4th Hand duties, including pushing broke and assisting dry end crew
- Provide general production assistance as needed across departments
Training & Advancement
- Cross-train on paper mill production equipment and processes
- Learn multiple operational roles for internal advancement opportunities
Qualifications
Required:
- High School Diploma or GED preferred (or equivalent experience)
- Ability to speak, read, and write English
- Strong work ethic and reliability
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Willingness to work rotating shifts (days, evenings, nights)
Preferred:
- Experience in manufacturing, warehouse, industrial cleaning, or production environments
- Forklift operation experience or certification
- Familiarity with industrial safety practices
Preferred Skills & Certifications
- Forklift Operator Certification (or willingness to obtain)
- OSHA Safety Awareness / OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 (preferred)
- Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) awareness
- Industrial housekeeping / 5S methodology
- Pulp and paper manufacturing experience
- Production line support experience
- Material handling and warehouse operations
- Mechanical aptitude in industrial environments
